Working through it
Search the Roku Channel Store
Press Home, go to Streaming Channels or use the search field, and look for IPTV Smarters Player or IPTV Player. Add it if it appears. Availability varies by region and changes without warning, so if nothing turns up, that is Roku’s doing rather than anything wrong at your end.
Log in with Xtream Codes
Open the channel, choose the Xtream Codes option, and enter your username, password and server address exactly as sent. If the app you found offers only an M3U field, use the M3U link from the same activation message instead — it carries the same account.
Alternative: mirror from a phone or PC
Turn on Screen mirroring under Roku Settings, then System. On Android use Cast or Smart View; on Windows press Win+K. Play the stream on that device and it appears on the Roku. It works, and it is fine for testing, but the phone must stay awake and on the same network throughout.
Best option: add a Firestick
If IPTV is the main reason that television exists, a Fire TV Stick at $30 to $50 removes every one of these limitations in one go. Plug it into a spare HDMI port and leave the Roku for whatever you were already using it for. We say this to most Roku owners who message us, and nobody has regretted it.
When it goes wrong, and what fixes it
IPTV channels disappear from the Roku store
Roku removes these listings periodically, which is exactly why we will not promise any particular one will be there. Your account is completely unaffected if it happens — the subscription is not tied to the app. Switch to mirroring, or add a stick.
Mirroring connects but the picture stutters
Mirroring sends video twice over your Wi-Fi, once to the phone and once to the Roku, so it needs roughly double the headroom. Move closer to the router, drop the stream to HD, or accept that mirroring is a stopgap rather than a solution for live sport.
The phone screen keeps sleeping mid-stream
Mirroring stops when the source device sleeps. Set the phone’s screen timeout to never while you are watching, and put it on a charger — mirroring drains a battery quickly.
The app installed but rejects the login
Check the server address carries http:// and the port. Roku’s on-screen keyboard makes errors easy, so type slowly. If it still refuses, confirm the same credentials work on a phone; that tells you immediately whether the problem is the account or the Roku.
Everything works but there is no programme guide
Most Roku IPTV players do not implement a guide at all, even with an Xtream login. That is a limitation of the app rather than your subscription, and it is another reason a stick ends up being the better answer on a main television.
Screen mirroring is missing from the Roku settings
Some Roku models and some managed networks disable it. Look under Settings, System, Screen mirroring and set it to Prompt or Always allow. If the option is absent entirely, mirroring is not available on that model and a stick really is the only route left.
The app worked, then Roku removed it in an update
This happens periodically and there is no way to prevent it. Your subscription is untouched. Search the store for an alternative player, fall back to mirroring, or add a stick — which is why the recommendation above exists.
Mirroring shows the picture but no sound on the TV
Android mirroring sometimes keeps audio on the phone rather than passing it across. Check the phone’s output is set to the Roku rather than the handset speaker, and disconnect any Bluetooth headphones, which silently capture the audio path.

Can you get IPTV on Roku?
Sometimes, and that is the honest answer. When a compatible player is present in your regional store it works fine. When Roku pulls it, mirroring is the fallback. Neither is as dependable as a $30 Fire TV Stick, which is what we recommend to most people who ask.
Does Roku block IPTV deliberately?
Roku enforces stricter rules on what channels may do than Amazon or Google, and IPTV players sit awkwardly against them. It is not aimed at you or at us, but the practical effect is that listings come and go.
Will mirroring work for live sport?
It will play, but we would not choose it for a match that matters. The double Wi-Fi hop and the sleeping-phone problem make it fragile for two continuous hours. Use it to test the service, then decide on hardware.
Does a Roku TV differ from a Roku stick?
No — both run the same Roku OS and have the same store restrictions. A Roku-branded television has the identical limitations as a Roku streaming stick.
If I buy a Firestick, do I need a new subscription?
Not at all. Your credentials are attached to the account, not the device. Install the player on the stick, sign in with the same three values, and carry on.
Can I sideload apps onto a Roku like a Firestick?
No. Roku has no equivalent of sideloading for ordinary users; the developer mode that exists is not intended for installing published apps. That single restriction is what makes Roku awkward here while a Firestick is straightforward.
Will Roku ever properly support IPTV players?
We would not plan around it. Roku has been consistent about what it allows in its store for years. If IPTV matters on that television, add hardware rather than waiting for a policy change.
Is a Roku Streambar or soundbar any different?
No — the audio hardware differs but the operating system and its store restrictions are identical, so everything on this page applies unchanged.
I already own a Roku. Have I wasted the money?
Not at all — it remains perfectly good for Netflix, Disney+, iPlayer and everything else it was designed for. The point of this page is narrower: for live IPTV specifically, Roku’s store rules make it the weakest of the mainstream platforms. Adding a $30 stick alongside it costs less than replacing anything and leaves both working.
Does casting from YouTube work the same way as mirroring?
No, and the difference matters. YouTube casting hands the Roku a link and lets it fetch the video itself, so your phone is free afterwards. Screen mirroring streams the phone’s actual display, so the handset must stay awake, unlocked and on the same network the whole time. That is why mirroring drains a battery and casting does not.
